I was fortunate to pick my grandson up from high school the other day. With the power of cell phones, I called him that I was close to the school and if he wanted me to pick him up. He quickly exited the bus and talked to me as he maneuvered through the school parking lot. As I watched him walk to the car moving through cars I thought how grown my first grandchild was! He proceeded to open the back door of the car and placed his large backpack onto the seat. He promptly told me that he was hungry and that he would direct me to the closest McDonalds. Per his directions turn left then right go straight as we cut through a subdivision. I said to him shouldn’t we have gone that direction, pointing the opposite way. He said no, this is the closest McD’s. I asked how far is this McDonalds, four miles… So as we drove I was asking him how his day was and with a joyful voice, it was good! I asked what did you do. He said we had a test. I asked in what subject. In English, it was on a book we had to read this summer. As we drove I said where is this place? He stated down the road. We finally arrived at the McD’s, and as we were getting ready to order and he went to give me money for our food. I said no save your money, you’re at the age now you need to save for the future. He excitedly told me that he didn’t want any birthday gifts or Xmas presents any longer that he only wanted stocks! I started laughing and said why… he went on saying that Aunt Emmy and uncle Tony have bought him stocks, and he wanted to continue to receive stocks so he would have many the older he got! After we parked and ate our late lunch I asked him to call his grandpa to let him know that I would be late getting home and why. Grandpa was excited that we were together and ask him to take care of Grandma, he replied I will do my best. As I pulled out of the parking lot he said to get in the left lane and turn left at the next BP gas station per his phone directions. The gas station was only second’s down the road from McDonald’s. I made my left turn and up ahead was a traffic light. He started laughing and said that’s the high school! We laughed as we turned in front of the school, we had made a complete circle as we headed to his house.
